Sale Eisteddfod Rules & Conditions of Entry - 2008

Country & Popular, Brass, General Music and Speech & Drama

1. Entries Close with Convenors on Friday 4th April 2008.
2. No entry will be accepted unless accompanied by correct fees. Cheques should be made payable to: City of Sale Eisteddfod Society Inc.
3. Late entries will be accepted up until Friday 11th April 2008 and must be accompanied with a late entry fee of $5.00 per entry.
4. No entry fee will be refunded unless the section is withdrawn by the committee. A stamped self-addressed envelope MUST BE included for return of appearance notices.
5. If, by the closing date, only one entry is received for a section, the entry may not be accepted unless the section can be combined with another section. If the entry is not accepted the applicant will be notified ASAP and the entry fee returned.
6. All competitors perform at their own risk.
7. All sections are open to amateurs only, except:
   (a) In the case of a Conductor or Accompanist (Please note special instructions in the primary school instrumental section).
   (b) Country & Popular - Sections 204, 209, 214, 219, 221, 223, 224, 228, 232, 236 & 240.
   (c) General Music - Sections 304, 306, 307, 309, 312, 313, 322, 323, 334, 346, 351, 352, 355, 356, 359, 362, 366, 374, 382, 387, 393, 397, 399, 401, 403, 406 & 407.
   In the Eisteddfod, an amateur is defined as any person whose main source of income is not derived from any exercise of their talents in the particular discipline for which they have entered.
8. In all sections which are subject to an age limit, the age on the closing date for entry, shall be deemed to be the age of the competitor.
9. Items can only be performed once in this Eisteddfod.
10. Competitors are not permitted to perform an item for which they have previously won first place, in the City of Sale Eisteddfod.
11. Novice competitors shall be those who have not won a first prize in any solo section in any Eisteddfod for the past two years up to the closing date of entries - 4th April 2008.
12. Competitors are not to appear more than once in any one Section; other than in Music sections where a competitor may be a Bona Fide member of a Band, Orchestra OR Ensemble, or a Special Choir and a Grade/Year Choir. In these cases, the competitor can only appear twice in the section.
13. Prizes will be awarded at the discretion of the Adjudicator, whose decision will be final.
    Prizes may be withheld where, in the opinion of the Adjudicator, sufficient merit has not been shown.
14. Competitors must report to the Secretary’s desk at least 15 minutes prior to commencement of their section.
15. Competitors are to supply a clear copy of their music, poem, reading etc. attached to the appearance notice. Failure to do so will see the competitor perform for report only.
16. Competitor and/or accompanist must use original copies of music or authorised photocopies (where photocopies are used they must be accompanied by a letter from the publisher or copyright holder). Schools must use AMCOS (Australasian Mechanical Copyright Owners Society) stamped copies in accordance with AMCOS agreement if original copies are not provided.
17. Unauthorised photocopies submitted for adjudicators will be destroyed immediately after adjudication.
18. All competitors are required to comply with the booklet “Guidelines To Copyright” available from AMCOS , 6-12 Atchison Street, St. Leonards, NSW 2065. Telephone: 02 9935 7900. FAX: 02 9935 7999. Email: print@amcos.com.au or info@amcos.com.au. These rules are in accordance with the directions of the Australian Copyright Agencies Ltd. and no variations will be permitted.
19. Communication with the Adjudicator, during the Eisteddfod, is not permitted by parent, teacher, or competitors, excluding committee members. Enquiries are to be made through the Desk Secretary or Session Chairperson.
20. No prompting or assistance of any kind may be given by teachers or other interested parties during the competition. The adjudicator or convenor are the only people permitted to prompt performers.
21. All competitors, conductors and accompanists are requested to wear suitable attire for presentation. The Adjudicator may deduct points if dress is unsuitable.
22. The Authorised King James version of the Bible is to be used for ALL scripture readings.
23. Hand props only are allowed in Character in Costume Recitals. No furniture is permitted other than the use of hall chairs.
24. All time limits will be strictly enforced. Performers exceeding these limits will have marks deducted at the adjudicator's discretion. Music section groups have 5 minutes to set up and begin performing. Marks may be deducted for exceeding this limit.
25. A music stand will be supplied for soloists. Groups and bands should provide their own.
26. Excluding the Country & Popular, guitar sections and Section 319 & 320, microphones and backing tapes/CDs are not permitted in the City of Sale Eisteddfod.
27. Only piano accompaniment may be used for solos, duets, trios and quartets in the General Music section.
28. Accompanists can not sing with a solo.
29. Competitors are to collect the Adjudicator Reports and Certificates by the closure of each session. These are available, 15 minutes after the completion of a section, from the Secretary's desk.
30. Any protest must be made in writing within 15 minutes of completion of the section and be accompanied by a deposit of $10.00 which will be forfeited if the protest is dismissed. The decision of the Committee in all matters will be final.
31. The Committee reserves the right to amend the program at any time by changing the order of the competitors. The Committee has the right to combine or remove sections where insufficient numbers enter.
32. The Committee reserves the right to appoint another adjudicator should the occasion arise.
33. It is an infringement of copyright law to use video cameras or recording equipment. These are strictly prohibited. Members of the audience are requested not to use flash lights at any time. During performances, mobiel phones must be turned off before entering the venue.
34. Failure to comply with any of the above conditions may result in disqualification.
